It’s been a new year full of babies I haven’t shared newborn photos here on the blog for quite some time so I decided to grab several from some recent sessions to share. I’ve had lots of incredible new clients this year. One of my new dads carried a baby brush around in his back pocket to fix his little loves hair in between shooting. So adorable. It’s really an amazing experience to witness the love felt between parents and their new bundles. Sometimes I’ll look over when shooting and see the biggest grins on their parents faces and I’m quite sure they don’t even realize their smiling from the inside out. I consider myself blessed to be a part of their first days together.

We are anticipating a new baby boy this weekend. Our Myla will have a brother We can’t wait to get our hands on him and already have the perfect name picked out which I’ll share on Saturday when he comes home! Besides a newborn baby’s head their is no sweeter smell than puppy breath…lol! I hope you’re all having a great week!

Where I started…

Those of you who have been following me and my work for awhile now will most likely recognize one of the beauties in this post. I have been photographing her since I started. This family changed the way I thought my business would go. They changed the way I thought of photographing kids and families. I’m thankful they were one of the very first clients because it’s a session that I think about often and am continually reminded why I do what I do. During that very first session I drove to their home. Mom had planned a tea party for her daughter and I sat back and watched (and snapped) the connection unfold. I FELT the love shared by this family. It was an amazing experience to witness and capture with my camera. I left there thinking, that is what I want from every session. I want to “Capture the Spirit of Childhood.” Those tea party images are still hanging on their wall and while I’ve grown as a photographer in both business and skills I’m reminded how important what I do is. I’m reminded that I am responsible for preserving these memories for a lifetime. So for those of you who choose me as your photographer, I’m grateful. Fast forward to 2011, the “G” family now has a new daughter and little Miss “M” has a sister. I recently photographed them together and had so much fun seeing this new connection in their family. I have so many clients who have become dear friends. I have so many kids I have watched grow and each time one of them walk in the door I’m grateful to be a small part of their lives. Now that I’ve gotten all sappy let’s proceed with some photos, shall we?

New Blog~New Baby

So we have a new blog, which will actually be our new website soon. I love the new features this blog offers and everything can be found in one spot. I have been terrible about updating my website because quite frankly it was a pain. This new site makes it easy to update galleries, add favorite sites, info, ect. I LOVE it! I love the colors, the layout, the overall feel. It is me. I hope you all love it too! I still have galleries to add, but you can view a few of them under the “My Work” tab at the top. Today I worked on the blog, but I also photographed the sweetest little baby girl. Which also brings me to the next reason I decided to make the time to upgrade my site. I have missed posting about my sessions. I have missed sharing my experiences. I believe the connection I make with my clients is the reason we have grown each and every year. The blog has always been my way of staying connected and will admit that facebook has made me lazy. Well, I plan to change that starting with this little beauty…

I shared a small sneak peek on my facebook page of this lovely senior and every time I pull a batch in to retouch I find more I love. I skipped ahead in the session just a bit to view the dirt bike shots! I love it that she is absolutely GORGEOUS, sweet as can be, and enjoys hanging out with her family riding! Thanks to her dad for hauling the bike to my studio, I loved the way this turned out!!

did I ever get so lucky? I get to snuggle brand new babies, meet their wonderful parents, and create images they will treasure for years and years to come. How did I ever get so lucky? I don’t know how, but I sure am grateful

I had a REALLY hard time picking images for this sneak peek. I try not to share too many because I enjoy seeing clients reactions to my work in person. I will admit, I do like making people cry (tears of joy of course).

It’s been a year since I photographed this little beauty. I have a couple images of her hanging in the studio and couldn’t believe how much she changed in just one year. She was busy and full of personality….just how I like them The family shot is another I could post in the “what to wear” post. I love their solid brown shirts and her coordinating brown pattern!

This is the last week of summer vacation before school starts for my 3 kiddos. I may take a bit longer to respond to e-mail and voice mails as I’m trying to spend as much time as possible with them. My baby is starting kindergarten…how on earth did that happen??

A gift for Grandma…

I have to tell you that these kids were perfect! You could tell they hang out together all the time and I just loved how close they were. I’m only posting a couple because Grandma wasn’t able to make the session and want to show her all the images so I can see the look on her face What a beautiful group and they made it sooooo easy!! I really enjoyed hanging out and hope they make the cousin session an annual event!!

Art for your walls…

Before photography was my profession, I, like many people considered and 8×10 a wall portrait. I would occasionally order an 11×14 of my favorite photographs thinking this was a BIG image. I think many look at the numbers 16×20 or 20×30 and think,” that must be a mural!” Actually, it’s not, and depending on your space a larger image or a collection of smaller images is usually more in proportion with your walls and furniture. When we think of an art gallery we think of huge images (poster size) hanging for all to see. Why not make your images of your little works of art the center of your room. The focal point. I’m attaching a couple examples to show you. I have never had someone say to me, “Gosh I wish I had ordered that smaller!”

Here is a 20×30 gallery wrap hanging above the chair I used to shoot it. The image on the chair is an 11×14. Although the photo is BIG, it fits really well hanging above the chair.

One of my clients ordered a 24×36 gallery wrap and (2) 16×16 gallery wraps. She was kind enough to send me an image of her display. I love how it shows the proportion. Those are large images, but they fit perfectly in this room.
