Trust.

I have clients tell me all the time, ” We trust you”, “We are up for anything!”   I love it that my clients feel comfortable enough with me and my work to say this and it’s not something I take lightly.  There is a whole new level of trust when it comes to newborns.  So when I had this idea to “hang” a baby from a limb I needed to pick a client who I knew felt totally comfortable with me.  I didn’t have an image to show them and the best way I could describe it was that I wanted to hang a baby from a limb like a cocoon.  The “B” family never flinched and said, “We trust you.”  So I have been planning this set up for weeks.  From the limb (fresh cut by my wonderful husband), to the knot, to the fabric, and of course the lighting.  I have been practicing and shooting it  over and over.  I even put my dog in some fabric to test, yes my dog!  It had to be totally safe and it had to look awesome too!  Several fabrics, knots and set ups later we had a winner.  Now, all I needed was that beautiful new baby.

His parents were absolutely wonderful…I could not have done this without their help.   From the bottom of my heart thank you!

If we get enough comments to this post I’ll post my dog shots.  I have some I took of Emma’s babies in it too.

I think he looks like a little birdie in the second one.  Congratulations “B” family he’s perfect and you guys rock!!

Simply Beautiful…

There is something I love about black and white newborn photography.  Nothing to distract from the emotion that is felt by new parents, nothing to draw your eye away from that beautiful little face.  It’s simple and timeless.  Most times my favorite shots are just a black or white background and a perfect little newborn.  Sometimes the most powerful, storytelling images aren’t even faces…

How about one in color.  This little carriage belonged to her mom when she was little.

Congratulations to the “M” family on their beautiful baby girl!

Need a smile?

I’ve got two for you…

You’re smiling aren’t you?!  A smile really is contagious.  I know they say that newborns don’t really smile real smiles, but gosh I’m not sure I believe that.  How could that grin be from gas?

He is so darn cute with those chubby little chipmunk cheeks.  I also think these 2 shots will be a surprise to his momma.  I’m not sure she knows we actually caught these big grins!  Congratulations to the “M” family on their beautiful baby boy!

Just started working on this session and wanted to share a quick one.  His daddy plays the drums…

More to come.  Thanks for stopping by!

Illinois Newborn Photographer ~ Big Sister!

So I photographed little “N” a couple years ago when she was new.  Well, now she is a big sister!!!  I can’t believe it has been 2 yrs already since I’ve seen her.  I was thrilled when mom called to let me know they would be adding to their family and asked if I would photograph their new baby girl.

With the help of grandma and a bit of chocolate bribery we got some really sweet shots of big sister….

Baby sister was a dream and was so good for us!  Isn’t her momma beautiful!  Love this image.

There is something about daddy’s arms holding a baby that gets me every time.

Here are a few more from one of my recent newborn sessions.  This is also a great way to show you that we offer lots of different custom sizes.  This next photo is cropped to 10×20.  I have lots of this size in my own home and it works perfectly for this photo…

This next image is cropped square.  We can do square images as small as 5×5 and as large as 30×30.

His momma e-mailed to say they were already looking forward to his next session.  Sure made my day!

He created this pose…

I put his little hand on his belly and he kept putting it up by his head.  This is how he was comfortable and I thought it was pretty darn cute.   When I was proofing his images it jumped out so I am posting only one for now, but will share more soon.  Congrats to his mom and dad who were such a pleasure to spend the morning with!

Lots of babies!

We have had lots of new babies lately.  This time a little girl.  I just loved her chubby little cheeks.  I could have stuck her in my camera bag and brought her home!

Congrats “M” family she is perfect!
